Petter Gedda - Surveyor

Petter Gedda is a sea surveying vessel built in 1925.
With its length of just over 26 meters and 5.6 meters width, Petter Gedda acted as accommodation for the surveyors. These set out in smaller boats to plumb the lake depths during the day and later return to the safe embrace of Petter Gedda.

Still a safe embrace

Today, Petter Gedda is completely renovated and rebuilt into a ship that offers conferences and events in a unique environment - where every minute is a pure pleasure.

The name of the ship Petter Gedda comes from the Swedish cartographer Petter Gedda

About the Swedish cartographer Petter Gedda

Petter Gedda was born on December 31, 1661 in Lövånger, died on June 19, 1697 in Karlskrona, Swedish cartographer. Petter Gedda was the son of land surveying inspector Johan Persson Gedda and Katarina Palm.

When Petter was thirteen, he followed his father to Ingerman-land and helped him with cartographic tasks. During the journey, he had enrolled at Uppsala University, and studied there for a few years after returning home in 1678, before becoming a surveyor in Turku and Pori.

In 1685 he became an inspector for Uppland's surveyors, and in the same year became director of steersmen and later steersman captain. He was also head of the Navigation office in Karlskrona. The "General hydrographic chartbook Öfwer Östersiön och Kattegatt" written by him and published in 1694 is considered the first real map of Sweden's coasts. It consists of ten maps and was printed in Holland.
